At the upcoming conference, ICBESS which has been transformed to Annual International Conference on Accounting Research (AICAR), and Annual International Conference on Management Research (AICMAR)

Remus Ilies

Dr Remus Ilies is a Professor of Management at The National University of Singapore (NUS) Business School. Before moving to NUS in 2011, he was the Gary Valade Research Fellow and Professor of Management in the Eli Broad Graduate School of Management and an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Michigan State University. Professor Ilies received his doctorate in Organizational Behavior/ Human Resource Management from University of Florida and earned a Master in Business Administration degree from Iowa State University.

His research examines numerous areas related to human resources and organizational behavior, such as personality, leadership, motivation, job attitudes, moods and emotions, and citizenship behaviors. This work has been published in premier scholarly journals such as Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Leadership Quarterly, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, and Personnel Psychology. Dr Ilies has also received several national awards, including the Distinguished Early Career Contributions Award from the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (2008), the Early Career Achievement Award, from the Human Resources Division of the Academy of Management (2010), and the Cummings Scholarly Achievement Award, recognizing an early- to mid-career scholar, from the Organizational Behavior Division of the Academy of Management (2009).

Dr Ilies is an active reviewer for numerous scientific journals in psychology and management, and is or had been serving on the editorial boards of prestigious journals such as Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Leadership Quarterly, and Personnel Psychology. In addition to his scholarly work, professor Ilies has consulted for a number of organizations, including The Iowa Department of Personnel, Iowa Healthcare Services, ePredix, and Toyota Financial Services.

Edward Buckingham

Edward Buckingham

Edward Buckingham is Professor of Management and Director of Engagement at Monash Business School. A keen proponent of Industry engagement, as a means to enhance the Business School’s value proposition, he facilitates joint initiatives between the business school and its stakeholders. Teaching Business Models & Strategy on both the MBA and Global Executive MBA programs at Monash are amongst his favourite activities.

Since arriving at Monash in 2015 Edward designed and directed the Victoria Indonesia Leadership Program for financial services executives and regulators; taught on multiple programs for the Australia Indonesia Centre; directed an international business module (Malaysia and Singapore) for the Monash EMBA program; taught strategic thinking courses for Monash Malaysia; ran business model design workshops for the faculty of science; acted as director of the Australian Centre for Financial Studies; co-authored a report on alternative finance; led focus groups, presented masterclasses and co-authored an article on the future of work in the resources sector for the AusIMM. He is secretary of the Monash Business School Business Advisory Board and sits on the Monash Infrastructure board. Edward is passionate about industry engagement and has implemented the Monash Business School Masterclass campaign and Leaders Panels series to stimulate exchanges between industry and thought leaders.

He graduated with a BSc in Materials Science and a BA (Hons) in Indonesian Literature from Monash University and was Monash University’s first undergraduate exchange student to Indonesia. Edward continued with post graduate studies in China at the Johns Hopkins Nanjing Centre. He also holds an MBA from INSEAD and his PhD, from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, focused on organisational boundaries and business strategy in Indonesia.

His professional career includes business and academic roles. He began his career with the Boston Consulting Group in Shanghai advising MNCs and SOEs and, after his MBA, managed a €50million French manufacturing business, now part of Clariant prior to joining Schlumberger, the International oil and gas services company. He lectured at Nottingham University’s Business School in Ningbo, China before joining Monash. He has been Director of INSEAD’s Executive MBA programs (France, Singapore the UAE and Beijing) and consulted in the UK, France, Gabon, Pakistan, Russia, India and China. He has taught in French, Indonesian and Mandarin as well as English.

David C Hay

David C Hay

David Hay is the Professor of Auditing at the University of Auckland, New Zealand.

David has a substantial role in auditing research as the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Auditing. From 2012 to 2017, he was involved in another leading auditing research journal as an Editor of Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory. As Editor-in-Chief, David is striving to include a wide range of high-quality research studies using any methodology and from a broad range of countries. He has also served as guest editor for the International Journal of Accounting and is an editorial board member of many other accounting and auditing research journals. David’s research interests include auditing issues internationally and in New Zealand, including auditor independence, corporate governance and privacy auditing.  His international research applying methods that take stock of the accumulated knowledge from existing research studies has been influential.

David won the 2017 “Notable Contribution to the Auditing Literature Award” presented by the Auditing Section of the American Accounting Association, with his co-authors. The award was for the paper, “Audit Fees: A Meta-Analysis of the Effect of Supply and Demand Attributes” published in Contemporary Accounting Research. It is very widely cited.  He is also co-author of the recent reference book on auditing and auditing research, The Routledge Companion to Auditing, and an author of about 50 articles in refereed journals, books and book chapters.

He was previously Head of the Department of Accounting and Finance at the University of Auckland. He has been an external reviewer of accounting degree programes at more than ten universities and similar institutions in New Zealand, Australia, Malaysia and Hong Kong. Before his academic career, David had extensive professional auditing experience in New Zealand and in the City of London.

David was President (New Zealand) of the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand from 2009 to 2011. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Accountants Australia New Zealand, a Fellow of CPA Australia, and a Fellow of the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand. He has played an active part in the admission requirements and examinations for Chartered Accountants in New Zealand, including writing course materials, facilitating courses, serving as Chief Examiner of the Final Qualifying Examination for Chartered Accountants, and being a committee member and education board member.
